Off-grid cabin power

A place away from the grid. A plan to power it.

This month, a ground-mounted cabin project from Solex inspires an editable starting build. Explore the equipment, then make it work for your own site.

Start with the core equipment

Real Solex parts for the example plan. It uses cataloged LONGi 620 W panels—not the project’s provisional 600 W panels. Inspect a part or open its retailer page.

Catalog checked 2026-10-10. Prices and stock are saved snapshots, not a reservation. Subtotal excludes installation essentials, tax, shipping and labour. Cable is a catalog unit—not a measured cable schedule.

Installation essentials

The core is a starting point, not a complete kit. These parts need the site measurements and final equipment design.

A ground mount also needs suitable rails, clamps, attachments and foundations. The photo does not establish a compatible mounting family.

  • PV disconnectProvides a serviceable isolation point between the array and conversion equipment.
  • Circuit protectionProtects conductors and equipment from fault current.
  • Breaker panel & AC distributionRoutes power to household circuits. Plan an existing panel, a backup subpanel or a compatible integrated panel.
  • PV connectorsCompletes compatible locking string connections.
  • Array mountingSecures and bonds the modules for the installation surface.
  • Grounding and bondingBonds exposed equipment and provides the grounding path.
  • Safety labelsIdentifies energy sources, disconnects, and electrical hazards.
  • Battery disconnectAllows safe battery-bank isolation near the source.
  • Battery conductorsCarries high DC current between storage and conversion equipment.
  • DC busbarsCreates covered distribution points for parallel battery equipment.
